Hello

Hi everyone! My name is Tia Salibi, and I’m excited to be running for VP of Student Advocacy for Science Society!

My Platform

I am a third year biomed student, and I’ve been lucky enough to work directly with the VP Student Advocacy as the volunteer coordinator for the past two years. This experience has allowed me to learn the ins and outs of this role. I understand what it takes to advocate for students, and organize meaningful initiatives that benefit all science students.

As science students, I know many of us are eager to get involved, connect with the community, and gain valuable experience. If elected, I will work to promote volunteer opportunities, making it easier for students to engage in meaningful experiences that align with their passions and goals. I also want to ensure opportunities are presented for students to benefit from the Student Opportunity Fund, ensuring financial barriers don’t prevent students from participating in conferences, workshops, or activities.

I’m committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse science community where everyone feels welcome. I will work to increase awareness of the anonymous feedback form, making it easier for students to voice their concerns and share their ideas. Your input matters, and I want to ensure every student is valued and heard.

I also know how hard you all work, which is why I want to expand current student recognition programs to celebrate your achievements, whether they’re academic, research-based, extracurricular, or beyond. And of course, university should be fun too! That’s why I’ll continue to build on the tradition of Wellness Wednesdays, reinforcing a culture of mental well-being, balance, and support.

If elected, I promise to fulfill this role with your best interests at heart! Thank you!
